Irish and Gaelic games or the GAA have a strong foothold among Irish communities in Britain and the U.S. but in recent years, the games have become more and more popular in continental Europe. There are now irish gaelic football clubs in France, Belgium, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Italy and Spain.
A small piece of history was made last summer with the setting up of the first GAA club in Southern Spain. |

The GAA club was founded following a chance meeting between a few Irishmen living and working on the Costa de Sol. Gaelic football as played today is a modern, fast and enjoyable sport and although most of the team are Irish, all nationalities play and have picked up the skills of the games with relative ease.
Training takes place every Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in Marbella, and true to Irish tradition, is followed by a convivial pint or two at a different location every week. |
